Creating Inner Harmony through various healing modalities

Coming Home

Hello all! Yes, it has been a while. I have been doing some serious work on myself and getting through some ‘stuff’.

I moved my office into my home in rural Sycamore. We live in the woods and the setting here is very beautiful. So I have not completely disappeared ; -) However, I won’t be posting my address on the website. I am about 10 minutes northwest of downtown Sycamore between Peace Road and Five Points Road.

If it’s been a while since we’ve connected, please send me a message and let me know how you are doing. I would love to hear from you! And of course, would love to set up an appointment!

Much love to all! May you be blessed!

What a Year its been!

I finally have an opportunity to sit down and catch up. It’s been an amazing year! As you may probably know, Kindred Spirits was faced with a very difficult decision to move. This decision affected all of the tenants that shared space with in the cabin.  So the search for a new office began.

We are now located in downtown Sycamore across the street from the famous Jane Fargo Hotel. In case you’re wondering, it’s famous because it’s Haunted!

This has for me been the year of the move! My ‘day job’ moved twice in one year, I moved my business office from Oswego to Sycamore AND we moved our residence after 19 years in one house. So this has been a year to remember!

I do want to take a moment and thank everyone! Thank you for spreading the word about me. Word of mouth is the best advertising. You are the best!

Looking back on this year I’m amazed at all the people that crossed my path. Whether they showed me something I liked or didn’t like, they all showed me something about myself. Thank you! I learn from everyone and now I send love and blessings to all!

This year look for Wellness Days and Donation Days!

**For Donation Days, I’m asking you to spread to word to those that would not otherwise afford it to come in on those days.**

Tales from the Loft – Ms B

Ms B* comes to me regularly for energy work.  She is also an Energy Worker or what some call a Lightworker. Her modality is using Reiki** to help her clients to balance the energy bodies and the seven energy centers of the body, also called Chakra centers. Well she came to me recently and  she told me that she has been doing her own personal spiritual work and she intuitively realized that when you get to a point of doing your own personal spiritual work, it is very important to have bodywork done.  So we decided to do the 10 Step Protocol of CranioSacral Therapy.

chakra_imgWe worked the hour to adjust and align not only the energy centers of her body but also the spinal column, the spinal fluid, the bones of the vertebra and the bones of the skull. We went through the 10 Step Protocol that Dr. Upledger teaches for CranioSacral Therapy for an overall balancing. I also talked with her about the importance of being grounded. She had mentioned that she had been working on several clients and felt that her own energy body had been compromised. It felt to her that she either had been picking up something or she had been using her own energy as part of the energy healing work that she does.

We went over an exercise to help really get her grounded. As an energy worker you want to make sure that you, yourself, are grounded and that you are not using your own personal energy while doing this work. This is an important point that Reiki healers must remember to use Universal Energy and have that energy flow freely through them. If you are dealing with  any kind of physical problems or emotional problems, you want to make sure that you are completely grounded before you work in anyone else’s energy field. What can happen is you may begin to take on their energy. The term is called Transference or Counter-transference. This where you are picking up the persons energy or they are picking up YOUR energy. As an energy worker, you don’t want that to happen because you want their energy body to heal, you don’t want their energy body picking up your “stuff”.

So after the treatment of CranioSacral Therapy using the Ten Step Protocol, she felt much more in line and in balance. We talked about a couple of her Chakra Centers and things that she can do to help keep those centers in balance. As energy workers, or Lightworkers, it is very important to have our own work done. And if you’re interested in becoming an energy worker and maybe thinking about taking a Reiki class, when you take Reiki Level 1, it’s all about self care and self healing. We want to avoid taking on the attitude that we can ‘heal’ someone. We create a space for the body to heal itself.

“Physician, Heal thyself” comes from Luke 4:23. Another way to interpret this scripture is: “Healer, heal thyself first.” It has been known that it is the healer who heals herself first before she goes out to heal others. And as Energy Workers and Lightworkers we want to make sure that we are taking care of ourselves first. I like to use the analogy of while on a plane, if the oxygen masks come down, put on your air mask first, and THEN help the person next to you. Airline mask.pjg

**What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”

Tales from the Loft – Mr. A

Mr. A came to visit me recently. He works long hours so we had to schedule a later appointment on a Friday evening. My hours are by appointment, so I try to accommodate my clients as much as possible. He has a very physical job. His body was experiencing a lot of tension, muscle soreness and trigger points in the neck, shoulders, lower and middle back areas. We opted for some Deep Tissue and **Myofascial release. As I was working the muscles that support the spine in the middle back, called the Erector Spinae, these muscles are directly over the Kidneys. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Kidneys are the meridian that holds the emotion of fear. If we experience some kind of fear in the body, the organ that is usually affected is the kidneys and the bladder.

As I’m working in the area near his kidneys he started mentioning that with the economy that way it is he has been worried about whether or not he will have any new contracts for work come his way for next year. We started talking more about that and I asked him,  “Where is that worry coming from? What do you think is the core emotion that is triggering this worry about whether or not you’re going to receive contracts for next year?”

He thought about it for a few minutes and all of a sudden he said, “fear! I have fear of not getting enough work for next year and so it triggers worry.”

So I finished working on the trigger points in his back and neck and asked if he was okay with doing some Central Nervous System Emotional Release. He asked if that was anything like EFT. I mentioned that it is nothing like EFT and explained about the way our bodies may hold onto emotions in the nervous system. The Central Nervous System sees this as an ‘allergy’ in the system. He said he would like to try it.

So we switched gears. He was feeling much better in his neck, shoulders and back and we proceeded with some Emotional Release. This technique is where I would stimulate the meridian points on the body related to emotions. The theory behind this technique is that sometimes our emotions may get trapped in the central nervous system. Especially an emotion like fear. When fear becomes trapped within the nervous system, this can cause a person to not be able to move forward on a Mind Body Spirit level. Sometimes we can get stuck emotionally and are not able to move forward. This could affect our ability to manifest as well. When we have something that is blocking us from moving forward or opening up to what the Universe is providing for us, or flow to us, we block off our own ability to manifest.

So we worked on the emotion of fear specifically the fear of enough money coming in next year. Being able to get enough work next year, being able to pay the bills and everything that goes with that.

After I worked those meridian points then I work the points on the spine where the central nervous system resides. Then I ended with a CranioSacral Still Point and this allows the nervous system to integrate what was just worked on. Afterward he said he was feeling very relaxed and he mentioned that he was not having any thoughts of worry at the moment. So I let him know that he would need to let it integrate for a few days because we are working with the central nervous system. Sometimes it could take three to four days for the treatment to fully integrate. It was a good thing our appointment was on a Friday so that he could take the next couple of days to just relax. I mentioned that he should really pay attention to how he is feeling. If he notices any fear coming up, to just pay attention without any judgment.

Four days later he sent me a text message and basically said, ‘Hey Denise, you’re not going to believe this, I just signed two big contracts for next year. And I was not even worried about it and I can see how worrying can keep the door closed on my manifestations.’

As a Mind Body Spirit Coach, we work together to bring Inner Harmony and balance to all levels of the self. With Mr. A we worked not only on the physical level but the emotional and mental levels as well.

**The myofascial release approach is a form of soft tissue therapy used to treat somatic dysfunction and resulting pain and restriction of motion. It is a treatment described by Andrew Taylor Still, founder of osteopathy/osteopathic medicine, and his early students, which uses continual palpatory feedback to achieve release of myofascial tissues.[1] This is proposed to be accomplished by relaxing contracted muscles, increasing circulation and lymphatic drainage, and stimulating the stretch reflex of muscles and overlying fascia.

Miss C came to see me the other day. I asked her how she was doing and she responded with a sigh and said, “Oh, I’m doing well.”  Her words told me one thing, but her body and spirit were telling me a completely different story.

You see, Miss C has been a regular client of mine since I opened my practice in 2008. Over time we’ve gotten to know each other fairly well. She is one of my many nurses that come to see me for bodywork. I know how stressful her job is and the toll that it takes on her. Not only on her body physically, but on her Mind and Spirit as well. But on this day it seemed not only was the Body telling me that she needed physical help, but her Spirit was carrying an emotional load that was crying to be released.

That day we decided to do some Deep Tissue for her neck and shoulders and some CranioSacral Therapy for her nervous system. So her body was happy to be able to release the stress and  tension from the deep tissue work and her spirit was happy to be able to release the emotional tension and stress within the nervous system with the CranioSacral Therapy work.

What really makes me feel good is seeing the transformation happen within the body as the physical and emotional tensions are released. Of course, when she got off the table, she mentioned how she needs to come see me more often.  We get so busy sometimes that  we don’t have the time to take care of ourselves. We will wait until the tension is just too much to bear that it effects us on so many levels.

As she floated down the stairs from my office in the loft I mentioned that she may want to consider taking a salt bath and to drink plenty of water. She told me she would and then go straight to bed. She called me the next day and said she had the deepest sleep that she had had in a long, long time. My heart smiled.

It is a true gift from the Universe to be able to do what I do. I am a Mind Body Spirit Coach. I listen to not only the person and their story, but I listen the their Body and Spirit as well. I have a tool box of modalities to draw from in my work.

I plan on posting more Tales from the Loft to share my experiences as to what it is I do. I love what I do and I love the people that come and see me. I have an arsenal of modalities to pull from and will be sharing more of that with you. I feel building a relationship within the community is important to me and sharing information is key so you know what we can do together to bring healing to the Mind, Body and Spirit.

Sending blessings from the Loft.

***To take a salt bath, add 1 cup of Epsom Salts (or sea salt) to a bath of warm water and soak for 10-15 minutes. Be sure to get your minimum of 8-10 eight ounce classes of water per day. After having bodywork done, be sure to drink 16-20 ounces of water. ***

I will be traveling out of the country from July 19th to August 10th. So if you call or text me for an appointment and you don’t hear from me, I will be in Southeast Asia and will have VERY limited access to the internet and no access to my phone or text messages. So please forgive me if I don’t answer.

I’ve been invited to travel to Malaysia through Northern Illinois University. So I will be working some of the time. The other part of the time I’m there I will be doing some really deep personal spiritual work. I will be writing about it and sharing my experiences, so stay tuned.

If you have never been to Southeast Asia, here is what I had to do to prepare so far:

I needed a Typhoid shot, Hep A and B, and an update on tetanus/whooping-cough. Then I needed to get a prescription for malaria. I have to start taking a pill once a week starting 2 weeks before I leave and then continue taking it 4 weeks after I return.

Then trying to figure out what to bring on the trip that will fit in one suitcase not to weigh more that 50 pounds and one carry one backpack. That’s it! So needless to say, it’s been a challenge deciding what to bring and what not to bring. Toilet paper, hand sanitizer and sanitary wipes are a priority.

I experienced some fears about going to a country that is very different from ours. One fear was imagining having to go to the bathroom into a hole in the floor. I had my acupuncture lady work on my kidney meridian and the fear is now gone.

I’ve informed my contact in Malaysia that I am a vegetarian, so no surprises in what I would be eating meat wise. I’ve been a vegetarian again since the beginning of the new year. I do still eat fish, but prefer it raw.

This has been a very unexpected surprise trip for me. I am in deep gratitude to the teacher and student that requested my services on this trip and for NIU for paying for and taking care of all of my travel arrangements.

Thank you all for your continued support with Inner Harmony Massage Therapy and Intuitive Services. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you.

I love finding about CranioSacral therapy in the news. Here are a couple of great YouTube Videos on CranioSacral Therapy. Enjoy!!!
